NAVIGA – World Organisation for Model Shipbuilding and Model Ship Sport
NAVIGA is the international world organization of model shipbuilders, bringing together both scale modelers (C class) and sport (navigating) modelers. It regularly organizes world championships, such as the 2026 NS Open World Championship in Orosháza.
Hungarian Association of Modelers
The mission of the Hungarian Association of Modelers is to coordinate activities in the fields of aeromodelling, ship modelling, and car modelling; to organize and conduct competitions and events within these disciplines; to oversee youth development; and to support recreational modelling.
Organized modelling in Hungary began nearly 110 years ago. Our history includes numerous major achievements, such as World and European Championship titles, world records, and World Cup victories. Our members compete in nearly one hundred categories and also take part in friendly meetings and demonstration events.
Orosháza Modeling and Sports Club
Modeling as a sport in the city of Orosháza has traditions spanning more than three generations. It became well-known and popular through modeling activities carried out among technically inclined youth and adults. Although few local sources remain from the early decades, modeling was already present in the city by the mid-20th century, in parallel with the national modeling movement: aeromodelling, car modelling, and ship modelling groups and workshops were active. Following the political transition, the Orosháza City Modeling and Sports Club was established, bringing together several disciplines – car, aircraft, and ship modelling – and becoming the center of local competitions and demonstrations. Club members regularly participated in regional and national competitions. From the turn of the millennium, modelers from Orosháza increasingly appeared at international competitions as well, making both the city and the club active participants in national and international modeling life. One of the most well-known figures in Orosháza’s modeling sport was Gyula Nóbik, who made a lasting impact as a competitor, coach, and organizer. As a fifteen-time Hungarian champion and World Cup winner, he was one of the driving forces behind the city’s international modeling competitions. His daughter, Nóra Nóbik, won a European Championship title. In addition, local competitors such as Sándor Végh, György Kiss, and car modelers János Pap and Ferenc Gibala also contributed to the club’s sporting achievements and recognition.
